Braunstone Foodshare is a scheme set up by B-inspired back in 2011 to reduce food waste from supermarkets. Now the scheme provides essential services to support local residents that are struggling to provide food for themselves and their families.
Braunstone Foodshare offers weekly, fortnightly or monthly food parcels to those in the LE3 1 post code area. We run the scheme on a membership basis to ensure we are supporting those most in need. Our scheme has developed a lot over the years to tackle food poverty in Braunstone, but the one thing that has remained consistent is the fact we always put the people of Braunstone first.
Over the pandemic our efforts have not only been recognised by local people and businesses, who have kindly support the scheme with donations. We have also been recognised by the Lord Lieutenant of Leicester, as an example of community spirit for all the hard work b-inspired staff members and volunteers have put in throughout these trying times.
One of the things that makes B-inspired unique is we take a multidisciplinary approach to supporting local residents. We team up with a whole host of organisations who can support our members with everything from benefits advice to debt.
A lot of our members end up needing a range of support, most of the time through no fault of their own. The sad thing is by the time they come to us in need of food, their issues are often more complex to deal with due to the issues being been left for a long period of time.
The running of any household can be stressful, especially if you have family to care for. The one thing people often don’t talk about is how much stress comes from being able to manage your household finances effectively. Especially if you have had a change in circumstances, for example change in benefits or debt has built up. Coronavirus has impacted lots of people in a variety of ways and will likely continue to do so for some time to come.
Hopefully, as lockdown restrictions lift, we will see more people taking charge of their finances but we’re always here to help. Whilst we can only directly provide food and essentials such as hygiene products, we work with the following organisations to provide a range of support services to face the majority of issues local people may be facing.
If you need support just remember the first step in helping yourself, is just a phone call away:
If you feel like you need support from any of the above agencies, feel free to reach out to them to speak to one of their specialist advisors in confidence.
If you are struggling to provide for your family and live in the LE3 1 postcode area, please call: 0116 279 5020 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more about our Foodshare scheme. Our friendly team are always happy to listen to you and help you in any way we can.
