“We are dedicated to carry on the ground breaking work undertaken by BCA and the New Deal for Communities Initiative in developing successful neighbourhoods, and providing the services and support needed to continue to embrace and nurture talent and potential in our exciting and diverse communities.”
b-inspired has been established to carry forward the ground breaking work undertaken by the BCA over the last decade. Since 2000, we have worked to change Braunstone for the better, and together we have achieved a great deal. Working with the community, we have gained a unique insight into the real life issues close to the hearts of our residents. In identifying these issues, we have built active relationships with a huge number of organisations over a wide spectrum and have successfully delivered products and services for local people.
We have laid the foundation for improvements at the heart of our community, where it matters most.
Unemployment has reduced to around the City average, and 60% of adults now have some form of qualifications. However, for adults in our area, the need for qualifications, as a route into sound job prospects, is more of an issue than ever before. b-working will continue the great work that has been delivered over the last 8 years, providing real support, access, advice and practical help in finding and keeping employment.
Redundant buildings have been brought back into use including The Lodge, on Braunstone Park, which is now a hub for sport and physical activity on the park and the development of empty warehouse space into the Business Box, the centre of a new enterprise quarter for the area.
The Park is quickly becoming a centre for community activity and sport following a major investment to develop new play and sports equipment to complement the work of both ourselves and our partners to promote physical activity, participation in sports and access to nature.
More people are volunteering than ever before with over 100 people from across the city engaged in our Achievement Project, local residents engaged in the Neighbourhood Forum and many other activities.
Sport and physical exercise has increased tremendously. In 2002, 69% of people took part in some form of sport or physical activity on a regular basis. Now 86% of people are involved in sport or physical activity on a regular basis.
An entrepreneurial spirit has started to emerge with 50 enterprises securing more than £1,500,000 of start up grants, the Business Box quickly reaching capacity and a burgeoning network of local businesses.
We are dedicated to continuing this improvement, which is why we have launched b-inspired together with:
b-working – Practical help and guidance for employment
b-enterprising – Help in building a business and working for yourself.
b-active – Promoting health and well being for everyone.
b-creative – Enabling residents to learn and build confidence through realising their creativity
b-connected – Information about local groups, events and activities
Building on the successes achieved so far, b-inspired has been designed to provide real benefits for local communities, individuals and groups.
Without exception, all our services are community based. We know that support needs to be both practical and accessible, and b-inspired is dedicated to ensuring residents are at the very heart of what we are about. We are committed to realising the talent and skills within disadvantaged neighbourhoods, creating really sustainable communities for the benefit of all.
